About Me:

Resident-Centred Governance. Proven Leadership. Dedicated to Collingwood.

I am Tyler MacFarlane, and I am running for one of the seven councillor seats for the Town of Collingwood. My deep roots, decades of community service, and professional leadership experience have prepared me to work hard for you on town council.

As a non-resident elector currently living just down the road in Wasaga Beach, I have a personal understanding of our region's housing challenges. After living in Collingwood for nearly 39 years, rising housing costs forced my partner, Christine Miller, and me to relocate in 2024. We spend every day working toward our goal of moving back home to Collingwood. I am running to ensure council focuses on real solutions for residents, not personal projects.

Deep Roots in Our Community

  • Born and Raised: Born in 1984 at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital to Gary and Kathy MacFarlane.

  • Family Legacy: My father, Gary, spent 12 years at the Collingwood Shipyards and 30 years with Collingwood Public Works. My mother, Kathy, has lived in town for 74 years, spending 31 years in HR at Goodyear Canada.

  • Local Education: Proud alumnus of St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School and Jean Vanier Catholic High School (now Our Lady of the Bay).

  • Youth Sports: Active participant in Collingwood house league soccer for nearly 13 years.

  • Cadet Program: Spent 5 years as an Army Cadet and supported the local community with service, which has continued to this day from the age of 14 in this Town.

  • Higher Education: Attended Georgian College for Police Foundations. Participated in long distance learning from Royal Military College. Multiple courses provided through the Canadian Armed Forces on Critical Thinking, Leadership, Personnel Management, Ethics and the list goes on.

A Career of Leadership and Service

My professional life and military service have given me strong skills in customer service, leadership, teamwork, and integrity:

  • Business Management: Current General Manager at Little Caesars Collingwood (8 years), where I connect with residents daily. Previously worked locally at the Saunders Book Company.

  • Canadian Armed Forces Reserves: Serving member of COATS (Cadet Organizations Administration and Training Service) for 22 years. Currently holds the rank of Captain in the Army.

  • Army Cadets Leadership:Deputy Commanding Officer of the 1909 Collingwood Royal Canadian Army Cadets. I proudly served as the unit's Commanding Officer through the challenging COVID-19 pandemic years.

My Commitment to You

Collingwood deserves a council that listens. While I have specific campaign priorities, my ultimate goal is resident-centered governance.

  • Listening First: I will prioritize what residents expect council to get done, rather than pushing personal political agendas.

  • Accountability: I am running to work for you—always remembering that council serves the community, not the other way around.
